Model UN Team Wins Multiple Awards

GPCS sent 14 students to the Maine Model United Nations Conference (MeMUNC) on May 8-10 –– our 17th year attending! Showing poise and persistence, GPCS student delegates, representing Egypt, Slovakia, and Switzerland, stood out for their ability to stay in character, resolve conflicts, negotiate with other students, write resolutions, speak publicly, and use parliamentary procedure.

The 2024 MeMUNC drew roughly 250 students from 24 public and private schools around Maine and New Hampshire to participate in 7 different committee simulations. About 10% of those attendees are selected to receive awards in three different categories for their outstanding work. This year, four GPCS students in three different committees were recognized with awards: one recognized as Best Delegate for their work representing Egypt in the UN General Assembly Social Humanitarian Committee (SocHum), and three received Honorable Mention recognition as Egypt in a historical General Assembly from 1971, as Egypt in the UN Environment Programme, and as Switzerland in SocHum, respectively.

This is the fifth year in a row that multiple GPCS students have been recognized for their outstanding work in multiple committees and our fourth year in a row having a student recognized as Best Delegate in their committee!

While only a few GPCS delegates received awards, every GPCS student attending the three-day conference contributed to the overall success of the team this year.
